I. Basic Introduction to YE Series Three Phase Asynchronous Motors
The YE series motor is the main model of three phase asynchronous motor currently widely used in China. It represents "high-efficiency 3 phase asynchronous motors" and is a development of the traditional Y series (general-purpose series) and the Y2 and Y3 series (earlier high-efficiency series). Its design and performance comply with relevant standards of the Chinese National Standard (GB) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
In response to the global call for energy conservation and emission reduction, China issued a new version of the national standard GB 18613-2012, "Energy Efficiency Limits and Energy Efficiency Grades for Small and Medium-Sized Three-Phase Asynchronous Motors," in 2012. This mandates that all motors sold must meet energy efficiency level 3 or higher. The YE series is a "high-efficiency motor" designed and manufactured to meet this standard.
The YE series is a standard efficiency grade (IE2) motor. According to the GB18613 standard, its energy efficiency rating is defined as Energy Efficiency Class 3 (Note: The 2020 version of the standard, GB18613-2020, has tightened requirements, with the YE3 series now classified as ultra-high-efficiency motors (IE3), while the YE4 and YE5 are ultra-super-high-efficiency motors). However, at its launch, it served as the primary product for the market transition from standard efficiency to high-efficiency motors.

1. Key Features
·High Efficiency: Compared to the older Y series motors, the YE series significantly reduces copper, iron, and stray losses by utilizing a more optimized electromagnetic design, increased copper and silicon steel laminations (improving material utilization), lower-loss magnetic materials, and an improved cooling fan design, thereby improving efficiency.
·High Reliability: Featuring a robust structural design, the YE series typically achieves an IP55 protection rating (dust and water jet protection), a higher rating than the traditional IP54, making it suitable for harsher environments. Optimized bearing and sealing systems extend service life.
· Low Noise and Vibration: Optimized electromagnetic design and mechanical structure ensure YE electric motors produce minimal noise and vibration during operation, creating a more comfortable working environment.
· High Versatility: Mounting dimensions conform to IEC standards, offering high interchangeability and easily replacing similar domestic and international products. They are widely applicable in a wide range of machinery and equipment.
·Energy Saving and Environmental Protection: Their core value lies in energy conservation. The additional cost of a high-efficiency motor is typically recovered within 1-3 years through electricity savings, resulting in significant long-term economic and environmental benefits.
2. Main Applications
As the "heart" of the industrial sector, YE series motors are widely used, encompassing virtually all industries requiring power drives:
·Fans and Pumps: This is the largest application area, including centrifugal fans, boiler induced draft fans, and various water pumps.
·Compressors: Air compressors, refrigeration compressors, etc.
·Conveyors: Belt conveyors, scraper conveyors, elevators, etc.
·Processing Equipment: Machine tools, mixers, pulverizers, textile machinery, etc.
·And various other general-purpose machinery.
II. Future Development Trends of YE Series 3 Phase Asynchronous Motors
With the advancement of the global "Dual Carbon" (carbon peak and carbon neutrality) goals and the deepening of Industry 4.0, motor technology is also developing rapidly. The YE series (representing the IE2 efficiency level) is currently and will continue to develop in the following directions:
1. Continuous Improvement of Efficiency Levels (Evolving to YE3, YE4, and YE5)
·Policy Driven: China's latest mandatory standard, GB18613-2020, has raised the minimum energy efficiency threshold from IE2 (Energy Efficiency Level 3) to IE3 (Energy Efficiency Level 2). This means that the YE3 series has become the new market entry benchmark.
·Market Trend: Users and projects with higher energy-saving requirements have begun adopting YE4 (IE4 Super High Efficiency) and even YE5 (IE5) motors. These motors utilize cast copper rotors, higher-grade silicon steel laminations, and more sophisticated designs to push efficiency to the limit. In the future, YE4/YE5 will become the mainstream in the high-end market.
2. Deep Integration with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
·Frequency Conversion: A single, fixed-speed, high-efficiency motor can no longer meet all energy-saving needs. Especially in variable-load applications (such as fans and pumps), the energy-saving benefits of a "high-efficiency motor + VFD" combination far exceed those of a single high-efficiency motor. Future motor designs will prioritize compatibility with VFDs, adopting technologies such as corona-resistant enameled wire and anti-corrosion bearing technology to address challenges like harmonics and dv/dt introduced by VFDs.
·Integration: The integrated design of motor and drive, known as the "electric drive all-in-one," will become a trend. This design saves space, simplifies installation, and optimizes performance, making it a key form of future intelligent transmission.
3. Innovation in Materials and Processes
·New Material Applications: Higher-performance rare earth permanent magnets (for permanent magnet motors), low-loss nanocrystalline and amorphous alloys, and high-strength, lightweight composite materials will be increasingly used to improve efficiency while reducing weight and size. Advanced technologies, such as copper casting (which significantly reduces rotor losses), vacuum pressure impregnation (which improves insulation and heat dissipation), and automated production lines, ensure product consistency and reliability while reducing costs.
4. Specialization and Customization
Demand for specialized motors for specific industries and applications will increase. Examples include explosion-proof motors for the petrochemical industry, sanitary stainless steel motors for the food and pharmaceutical industries, and low-noise motors for the HVAC industry. Motor manufacturers will shift from providing standard products to offering customized solutions.
The YE series 3 Phase Asynchronous Motors marked a significant milestone in China's industrial motor energy efficiency upgrade, successfully promoting the widespread adoption of high-efficiency motors. However, they are also being replaced by the more efficient YE3 and YE4 series.
Future motor development will move beyond simply pursuing "spot efficiency" under specific operating conditions. Instead, it will evolve towards comprehensive "global efficiency, variable-frequency drives, intelligent systems, and customized products." The motor will evolve from a standalone component to an intelligent power unit integrating sensing, drive, and communication functions, providing the core driving force for industrial energy conservation and smart manufacturing.
